Hotel Pest Control

Keep Out Unwelcome Guests

Proactive and preventive pest control is important for hotels. Not only because hotels are more vulnerable to pest threats, but also because of the impact pest infestations can have on the reputation of your hotel. Hotels are under a greater risk of pest infestation, due to multiple entry points. There are multiple and divert pest control requirements, e.g. housekeeping, restaurant and bar area and the hotel maintenance department have different expectations from a Hotel Pest Control program. In addition to this, due to the fact that guests stay and live in the hotel the visibility of pest infestations is pretty high and requires constant attention.

However, this does not mean that the cost of preventive pest control protection is excessive - the important thing is to recognize the risks that different parts of a hotel face and then develop service programs to meet them - discreetly and effectively.

Pest species at work in Hotels

While there is a large variety of different pest species attracted to the different areas of a hotel, major culprits, that are almost always encountered in India, include:

  • Cockroaches carry dangerous diseases, such as cholera, typhoid and salmonella food poisoning. The presence of cockroaches often causes fear and anxiety for hotel guests and threaten your health and hygiene reputation.

  • Rats, Mice and Bandicoot Rats pose a high risk for hotels. They contaminate food items and cause damage by chewing on cables and insulation. In garden areas the burrowing activities especially of bandicoot rats can create additional damage and cost
Bedbug Image
  • Bed bugs are becoming a major issue in hotels in many parts of the world. All hotels are at risk from bedbugs, but especially those where there are large numbers of international travellers or those that have patrons that move frequently between hotels.

Prompt action against bed bugs is key – early detection and treatment ensures that they do not spread to other parts of the building. As well as treating and preventing bed bug problems, Rentokil can help you to train your staff to look for signs of bedbug problems to ensure early detection.

  • Mosquitoes in India are transmitters of potentially fatal diseases, such as Chikungunya, Dengue and Malaria. They can be a nuisance, especially if encountered in larger numbers.
Fly Image
  • Flies - There are few pests as annoying as flies, especially if there are larger numbers of them. Flies also carry and spread diseases, like cholera and salmonella food poisoning. A fly infestation can seriously harm a hotel's reputation, especially if guests are falling sick after having eaten.

Key Pest Control areas in a hotel

Different areas of a hotel face different threats and are prone to attacks from different pest species.

Kitchen and Dining Areas

The kitchen, restaurant and other dining areas need particular protection from mice, rats, flies and cockroaches that pose a high risk of spreading disease. Proactive treatment is essential in these areas and will be expected by environmental health inspections.

If pests are not adequately controlled, they will move from food preparation and storage zones into dining and other areas which may cause nuisance or distress to your customers.

Hotel Accommodation

The biggest pest threats to hotel accommodation areas are bedbugs and other biting insects. Preventative treatments and regular inspections are necessary to avoid bed bug and biting insect problems inside the hotel rooms.

Other Interior

Other areas of the hotel including sports facilities or back-of-house areas are at lower risk of infestation, but should be included as part of the regular servicing plan.
